Owning an EV in Bishkek in 2026: an honest account
Chargers, winter, electricity prices and resale value — everything to know before buying an EV.
Bishkek confidently leads the region in charging stations, and BYD and Zeekr sit at the top of the sales charts. But is an EV right for you? Let’s go through it point by point based on our clients’ experience.
Infrastructure and costs
The city has over a hundred public chargers, with fast stations along the Issyk-Kul and Osh highways. A kilometer on electricity costs 5–7 times less than on petrol. At home a regular socket is enough: an overnight charge restores 200+ km of range.
What about winter
At −10…−15 °C real range drops by 20–30%. Not critical for city driving, but if you often go to the mountains, EREV hybrids like the Lixiang or BYD Song Plus DM-i make more sense: electric in town, petrol on the highway.
Incentives and verdict
EV imports to Kyrgyzstan enjoy a preferential scheme with zero customs duty, making Chinese EVs 20–30% cheaper than same-class petrol cars. If you have parking with a socket and mostly drive in the city, in 2026 an EV already beats petrol.
